A History of WTVO
WTVO began operations on May 3, 1953 under the original ownership of Harry and Elmer Balaban. WTVO was the first station to air programming in the Rockford market.The station served Rockford as an NBC affiliate for 42 years before switching to an ABC affiliation.
Mission Broadcasting purchased the station in November 2004. WTVO-TV offers viewers the most comprehensive local news coverage in the stateline area. WTVO-TV has made "News Where You Live" our mission to serve residents of the Illinois/Wisconsin stateline area.
WTVO-TV is a member of the Rockford Area Chamber of Commerce, Rockford Area Economic Development Council, and Television Bureau of Advertising.
