Monday, Oct 19, 2009 @01:36pm CDT (Chicago, IL) -- The Reverend Jesse Jackson is calling on Chicago leaders to come up with an "urban stimulus" to help the community where a 16-year-old honors student was brutally beaten last month.
After a Monday meeting with city officials, Jackson called Chicago "ground zero" for urban violence and wants the city to find jobs for parents with children in school. Jackson says out of work parents can be trained to become carpenters, brick masons, and painters. He also called on unions to support the initiative. Chicago officials have yet to comment on the idea.
