Reported by: Katie Crowther Monday, Oct 19, 2009 @10:44pm CDT If you suffer from headaches, it may be your dentist who has the key to a cure. In our fast-paced world, people deal with a lot of stress on a daily basis, and a lot of them are unknowingly taking that stress out on their teeth. "They're grinding their teeth, clenching their teeth, and it doesn't let up," describes Dr. Kris Tumilowicz, with Dental Dimensions. This can happen most often while your sleeping. In turn, you can suffer from insomnia, headaches, and a sore jaw. But there's something you can get to help. "Many of our patients are using a device - what we call a night guard - and this may cover your top or bottom teeth, and give you a little shock absorber in between," he says. Sometimes before getting a night guard though, you must realign your bite. "If you're missing teeth, we may want to replace them with bridgework or implants, or a partial denture," he says. Or sometimes it's simply a matter of sanding down crooked or uneven teeth to create a more balanced bite. "Trim the teeth down so they're hitting equally," he says. "Break the cycle of grinding and clenching, which so many patients are doing all the time." |
