Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 @10:02am CST (New York, NY) -- New Yorkers were out early this morning, celebrating the Yankees capturing the team's 27th World Series crown.
Hundreds of fans stood in Times Square in midtown Manhattan to watch the final innings of Game Six of the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Some spectators in midtown were jumping for joy on taxi cabs, while passing cars honked their horns. Marino Rivera pitched the final one-and-two-thirds innings in relief. Rivera induced a ground ball to Robinson Cano, who threw to first base for the final out. With that, the Yankees captured their first title since 2000 and the franchise's first since moving into the new Yankees to start the 2009 season. Others were took in the deciding game around the five boroughs at restaurants and bars. The Empire State Building was lit blue and white for the Yankees last night.
