Friday, Nov 6, 2009 @08:53am CST (Ft. Hood, TX) -- A U.S. Army colonel who once worked with the man who allegedly killed 12 people at Ft. Hood in Texas says Major Nidal Malik Hasan had shown signs of mental instability recently.
Colonel Terry Lee says Hasan had made outlandish comments condemning U.S. foreign policy at a public conference. The comments included a suggestion that "maybe Muslims should stand up and fight against the aggressor." Colonel Lee says at first people thought he meant Muslims should assist the U.S. armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. Later, Hasan reportedly made comments indicating he didn't think the U.S. should be involved in the wars there in the first place. Colonel Lee says Hasan had also made comments following the June shooting at a Little Rock, Arkansas recruiting center that ended the life of one soldier and wounded another. Hasan allegedly told people maybe there should be more attacks with people strapping bombs to themselves and go into Times Square. Colonel Lee had worked in the psych ward at Ft. Hood with Hasan. Hasan survived the shooting despite being shot multiple times.
