Wednesday, Nov 11, 2009 @09:14am CST (Kabul) -- President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan will officially begin his second term in office on November 19th during a swearing in ceremony.
An Afghan official says officials from several ministries in the country will attend, however he did not say whether any foreign dignitaries will show up. A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Kabul did not say if any American officials would attend. Karzai is being returned to power although his stature among Western nations has been diminished due to a cloud of fraud that hung over the vote. More than a quarter of Karzai's votes were invalidated. The U.S., European and UN officials have stated that Karzai must make a greater effort to address corruption and improve his government's performance during his next term in office.
