Tuesday, Nov 17, 2009 @01:38pm CST (Berlin) -- German prosecutors have charged a 90-year-old man who allegedly served in the Nazi SS with killing 58 Jewish forced laborers in 1945.
They say the unidentified man was a squad leader in the SS, Adolf Hitler's elite police and military force. Prosecutors accuse him of helping to execute the Jews in Austria, including one who was shot to death but couldn't walk due to exhaustion. A court must now decide whether the elderly man should stand trial. In a different case, the trial of suspected Nazi death camp guard John Demjanjuk is set to begin November 30th in Munich. He is charged with helping to kill nearly 28-thousand Jews during World War Two.
