(El Paso, TX) -- Authorities in Mexico say a seven-year-old boy from El Paso, Texas was shot and killed across the border in Juarez, Mexico.

The child was visiting his father Friday night when shots rang out, peppering their vehicle with 18 rounds of 9mm fire.

The boy's father was killed instantly, and while Mexican police say the child escaped the vehicle, he was then shot in the back.

No arrests have been made.

Officers say more than two-thousand murders have occurred in Juarez this year.

The city is home to one-point-five million people.
