Wednesday, Nov 18, 2009 @01:04pm CST (New York, NY) -- A terror suspect who wanted to use U.S. military lawyers in his federal court trial has been turned down by a U.S. District Court judge in New York.
Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani is charged with killing 224 people by bombing American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya in 1998. He had been held at Guantanamo Bay, but was transferred in June to New York to stand trial. His military attorneys also asked federal court for permission to remain on the case. Federal judge Lewis Kaplan ruled a decision by the Pentagon to reassign the military attorneys away from Ghailani's case does not violate his rights.
