Friday, Nov 20, 2009 @02:49pm CST Today's the day astronaut Randy Bresnik is supposed to become the father of a baby girl.
The problem is he's currently aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis and the International Space Station while his wife Rebecca delivers the baby in the U.S. Atlantis crewmate Butch Wilmore says Bresnik is coping with the separation and realizes that for many families, especially military ones, the same difficult decisions are made every day. The baby girl is Bresnik's second child, but staying behind for his daughter's birth would likely have meant that the 42-year-old would never fly aboard a space shuttle. Bresnik is actually the second American astronaut to be in orbit while his wife gives birth.
