Wednesday, Nov 25, 2009 @02:07pm CST (Los Angeles, CA) -- The city of Downey, California, could be the site of a new Tesla electric car factory.
The "Los Angeles Times" reports that Mayor Mario Guerra is close to sealing a deal with the carmaker that could bring as many as 15-hundred manufacturing jobs to the city. The factory would be located on an 80-acre site that was once used to build the space shuttle and is currently used for TV and movie production. Tesla received a low-cost loan from the federal government to develop its electric cars. It may use the factory to build its new all-electric Model S sedan.
