
Jewell Hillery was born and raised in
Chicago,
IL, and joined the WTVO/WQRF news team as a general assignment reporter in November 2008. It’s been Jewell’s lifelong dream to work as a reporter, and she’s thrilled to bring the news to
Rockford!

Jewell graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and went on to earn her master’s in Public Affairs reporting from the University of Illinois in Springfield.
In college, Jewell began her television career as a production assistant and camera operator for WILL-TV in Urbana, IL. Throughout her academic career, Jewell gained invaluable experience interning at WCIA in Champaign, IL, WCFN in Springfield, IL and ABC-7 in Chicago. Prior to moving to Rockford, Jewell worked as a policy analyst for the Office of the Illinois State Comptroller, where she learned the ins and outs of state government.
While Jewell enjoys traveling to places like Singapore and Cape Town, South Africa, she also loves eating good food and exercising (working out is a must!). And Jewell always enjoys spending time with family, friends and her dog Megan.
To the viewing audience, Jewell says “follow your dreams; don’t let obstacles deter your goals. Nothing is impossible when you work hard and believe in yourself!”
