(Rockford, Illinois) The recent bitter cold weather is causing many homeless shelters to be filled to capacity. The poor economy was already giving local shelters too much business. But now with this arctic cold weather the last few days, many are scrambling to find enough room for the homeless.. At the Rockford Rescue Mission Monday there was a long line of folks in need waiting for the lunch-time meal. Managers at the Mission say they've seen about a 10 percent increase for folks showing up for meals. Rescue mission Administrator Randa Noble says they will never deny anybody a place to stay at night when temperatures turn this cold and adds, "There is no way we are going to send somebody out on a cold night like this to deal with the frigid weather." If you'd like to find out how you can help local homeless shelters by making a donation you can call the American Red Cross at 815-963-8471 or the Rockford Rescue Mission at 815-965-5332.
