Wednesday, Apr 8, 2009 @10:52am CDT (Washington, DC) -- There may be a resolution to the hijacking of a U.S.-flagged cargo ship off the coast of Somalia.
CBS News cites two military sources as saying the crew of the Maersk Alabama has overpowered the pirates who boarded their ship and is now back in control of the vessel. According to the report, one pirate was captured and three more were thrown overboard. The waters off the Somali coastline are infamous for piracy. Gunmen have been known to use small motorboats to pursue and capture huge cargo ships and tankers in the area. The ships and their crew are often held in hopes for huge ransoms. Early this year, the Sirius Star supertanker was released after a payment of three-million dollars. (Copyright 2009 by Newsroom Solutions) |
