Wednesday, May 20, 2009 @12:46pm CDT That sparkling blue swimming pool could be a health hazard.
A study by the Water Quality and Health Council found one in five people admit they've peed in the swimming pool. Eight out of ten say they suspect others have that unsavory habit. Council chairman Chris Wiant says swimmers could end up with respiratory infections, diarrhea or ear infections if they get into an unclean pool. He mentioned other sanitation problems can result if parents or caretakers of small children don't follow strict cleanliness practices. The Centers for Disease Control suggests swimmers should take precautions including avoiding swallowing pool water, practicing good hygiene with diapers and staying out of the water if afflicted with diarrhea.
