    Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful will hold its Fall Metals & Electronics Drive on Saturday, October 3, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., at the Machesney Park Mall parking lot (south of the JCPenney Outlet Store).  Since this program began in 1998, over 2.2 million pounds of metals and electronics has been collected for recycling, which has greatly helped conserve natural resources and saved vital local landfill space.

    The following items are accepted at a minimal fee to cover the cost of decanting and tagging for the EPA:

    • $10 each for refrigerator and freezers
    • $10 for propane tanks
    • $10 for air conditioners
    • $10 for dehumidifiers
    • $10 for computer monitors

     

    TELEVISION SETS ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTED.

     

    Items accepted at no cost at the Fall

    Metals Drive
    are virtually everything made of metal, including:

    • Scrap metals
    • Metal filing cabinets
    • Copy machines
    • Fencing
    • Metal desks & shelving
    • Appliances
    • Electronics – including stereos, cell phones
    • Copper pipes
    • Motors (with gas and oil removed)
    • Coat racks
    • Bikes
    • Microwaves and commercial ovens
    • Lawnmowers & Snowblowers (with gas and oil removed)
    • Patio furniture
    • Aluminum siding and steel doors 
    • Any items made primarily of metal
