Reported by: Nicole Kilmer Tuesday, Feb 26, 2008 @03:03pm CST (Sterling, Illinois) - The city of sterling is one step closer to green heating. The Sterling School Board will vote Wednesday, February 27, on whether to approve two geothermal system installations at Franklin and Jefferson elementary schools. The money was donated by a private foundation specifically for projects like these. The systems will help heat and cool the schools by using water from the ground. The systems use pumps to pull air or water from the ground, which is a constant 50 degrees. The air or water is electronically heated in the winter, which saves money and the environment. The system is reversed in the summer. The projects cost around $1.7 million.
