Reported by: Nicole Kilmer Thursday, Feb 28, 2008 @03:33pm CST (Jackson Hole, WY) - It's one of only five in the nation, and it's in Teton Village. You can't see it in the halls, the bedroom, or the bathroom, but just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not green. The walls and floors of Hotel Terra are covered with nontoxic paint and carpet. All of the rooms have plenty of daylight. In fact, 90% of the hotels interior is illuminated by mother nature. All of the faucets within the hotel are low flow. Between those and other water saving techniques the hotel will use 34% less water each year. Even the luxurious parts are environmentally conscious. A rooftop hot tub is cleaned not with chlorine but a salt-water based substitute. Go around the corner to the Chill Spa, and you'll find an organic line of products. And better means more green out of pocket, buying organic can cost two to three times more than the alternative. It's all part of a lifecycle of savings because in the long run they'll be saving money on water and electricity. Hotel Terra just opened at the end of January and is owned by a group of people from the area. They plan to expand their business to a group of fifteen hotels worldwide. |
