Reported by: Nicole Kilmer/Newsroom Solutions Monday, Mar 24, 2008 @03:48pm CDT WTVO/WQRF - Chicago will receive nearly 52 thousand dollars in federal money to cut diesel emissions from city garbage trucks. The funding from the EPA will be used to install diesel-fired engine coolant and hydraulic-system heaters on 13 heavy-duty garbage trucks. In addition to cutting air pollution, the effort will demonstrate the effectiveness of idling-reduction technologies on diesel engines while also conserving fuel and reducing vehicle wear and tear, the EPA said. The funding is being awarded through the EPA's Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative. |
