Reported by: Nicole Kilmer Tuesday, Apr 8, 2008 @06:36pm CDT Superior, WI - The University of Wisconsin-Superior Campus broke ground on its new student center. The 21-million dollar facility will be the first green-certified campus building in the UW-system. It will feature a sod and grass-covered roof, lots of natural lighting and will be energy efficient. The building's architect says it will provide a warm social hub for everyone on campus.
"It uses all the different functions of a student center that students need, like food, a bookstore, offices, but uses them as an excuse to bring people together," says Jan Van Den Kieboom of Workshop Architects. It's the first phase of 64-million dollars in building projects that also include a new academic building, renovation of the library and knocking down three existing campus buildings. |
