Reported by: Nicole Kilmer Wednesday, Apr 9, 2008 @03:48pm CDT WTVO/WQRF - Sharing the Beijing Olympic spirit apparently means spreading substantial carbon emissions. "Wired" magazine reports the already troubled Olympic torch relay could generate 55-hundred tons of carbon emissions. That's because the torch is carried aboard an A330 Air Bus plane to get to its relay stops around the world ahead of the August Olympics in Beijing. The plane burns more than five gallons of jet fuel per mile, and the global relay is set to cover a total of more than 85-thousand miles. |
