Each year thousands of people are scammed out of their hard-earned income by unlicensed scam artists offering investment opportunities. Secretary White urges investors to contact the Secretary of State's office to check whether the dealer or broker is registered with the state of Illinois before investing. White's Securities Department regulates and licenses entities offering and selling securities, investment advisors, loan brokers, business brokers, and those offering business opportunities. In 2009, the Securities Department received complaints totalling over $200 million. |
