Reported by: Alex Shabad Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009 @09:18pm CST Officer Anthony Moore only has two eyes but when he's in his patrol car he feels as if he has more like five. "Biggest advantage is I can keep my eyes on the road while this does what it's designed to do" says It’s called “Automatic License Plate Recognition". The state of the art technology uses camera’s that scan license plates. The cameras are on both on the sides and in front of the patrol car. "You will see it gets a yellow square when I drive past It." says And every beep you hear is another license plate getting scanned. "If they're suspended revoked any warrant then we can get that vehicle off the road if I can catch It." says When we took the new technology out on a patrol, the system was constantly beeping. And when a license plate is wanted you'll know. "It’ll freeze on that license plate and flash telling us something is wrong here" says But sometimes even this high tech machine makes mistakes. "It took that eight as a three because it didn't get into the screen" says Still, in under an hour, the system had scanned almost two hundred license plates. "I’m able to accomplish the same thing in 45 minutes as i used to in a 12 hour shift" says |
