Reported by: Alex Shabad Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @09:39pm CST "I feel a little sick" says ten year old patient Alondra. That’s a phrase pediatricians are hearing a lot these days. 10 year old Alondra had a fever of 102. "That's where they think most of the spreading occurs in school age children." says Doctor Patricia Panzica. Since the H1N1 scare, parents aren't taking any chances. In fact, Dr. Panzica says the number of patients she's seen this year has doubled. "Standing room only it gets pretty full even though we have five exam rooms still people are in the waiting room" says Panzica. 12 year old Alex Vanest just finishing battling a fever two weeks ago. "I’m not sure if it was swine flu or regular flu but I had a fever of almost up to 104" says Vanest. "When my son was sick I was checking temperature every few hours didn't want fever to spike" says Alex’s mother, Naomi. And Panzica gives most of her patients with h1n1 symptoms similar advice. "It’s very important they're fever free when they go back to school so they don't share it" says Panzica. "If it was swine flu then he's got the antibodies for swine flu now" says Naomi Vanest. But with many others still battling the virus, Panzica is predicting a very busy winter. |
