Sunday, Nov 1, 2009 @10:41pm CST Rosemont, Ill.- Special teams are beginning to turn into the Rockford IceHogs Achilles heal. Rockford coughed up a late goal on Sunday with the Chicago Wolves on the power play and fell 3-1 to the Wolves at the Allstate Arena.
On the advantage, defenseman Chris Chelios blasted his first goal of the season past Joe Fallon from the right circle to break a 1-1 tie at 15:53. The Wolves put the finishing touches on their victory when Arturs Kulda buried an empty-net goal at 19:46. Rockford failed to score on the power play for the fifth straight game (0-5) and for the second straight night, their penalty kill allowed the game winning marker in the third period. Chicago finished 1-3 on the power play. Chicago grabbed the early 1-0 lead on Sunday. Joey Crabb ripped home his third goal of the season from between the circles, beating Fallon glove side at 3:43 for the 1-0 lead. Kevin Doell and Riley Holzapfel had the assists.
