Reported by: Scott Leber Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009 @07:44pm CST DeKalb, Illinois-You've heard of the hurry-up offense. Well the NIU Huskies are in a hurry-up mode all this week. Their next game is Thursday night when they host Eastern Michigan. That's only five days following their previous game last Saturday against Akron.
The Thursday game will be televised nationally on ESPNU. That's great exposure for the Huskies, but it also creates a lot of stress. "We're not a professional football program," said head coach Jerry Kill Tuesday at his weekly press conference. "Number one we talk about academics, and it really puts a stress on the kids' classwork. That's where you really feel it. Then I don't know how good it is as physical as football has become to be able to play on a Saturday which is like being in a car wreck if you play hard, and then turn around and be in another car wreck on Thursday." The Huskies will also play a game next Thursday against Ball State, but at least they'll have seven days to prepare for that one. |
