Rockford, Illinois- Smokers across the country who are trying to kick the habit took part Thursday in the "Great American Smokeout". The event began in the 70`s when smokers would stop smoking for a day or donate the money they would spend on cigarettes to charity. Now local hospitals say they`re doing their part by stopping people from lighting up. "So far, so good," said OSF St. Anthony Medical Center`s Director of Marketing Gerri Gustafson.
