Arctic Blast Hits Stateline

By: Import User
Updated: March 1, 2007
Illinois is no stranger to cold winters, but the 2007 winter is as cold as anyone here can remember. In Rockford, wind chills around 35 below forced Superintendent Dennis Thompson to close schools Monday. He says kids could have fallen victim to frostbite walking before they reached the door. Forecasters say temperatures are 10-to-20 degrees below normal, and wind chills make it feel even colder. The frigid weather is part of a larger cold front freezing most of the Midwest and parts of the East.
