Bill Banning Synthetic Cannabis Heads To Governor's Desk

By: Colin Clarke
Updated: April 30, 2010

(Springfield) -- The Illinois Senate approved a measure that would ban a synthetic form of marijuana known as "K-2".

The substance is sold as a potpourri in some head shops.

It is also available over the internet.

Law enforcement groups say not much is known about the drug, but it is believed to have similar effects as pot.

The bill hopes to prevent people from acquiring the substance and smoking it. "K-2" is already illegal in Kansas, and other states have proposed similar laws.

The House already approved the measure.

It now goes to Governor Pat Quinn, where it awaits his signature.
