Gun Proposals Pass In Committee

By: Colin Clarke
Updated: March 2, 2012
(Springfield)  --  Two gun bills are moving forward in the Illinois House.
One proposal seeks to tax ammo while the other will require gun owners to register their handguns.
Representative Ed Sullivan compares taxing ammo to taxing a person's freedom of speech.
He says both are rights protected by the U.S Constitution and therefore should not be taxed.
He's one of four lawmakers who opposed the proposals in committee yesterday but the both passed and are now headed to the House floor for a full vote.
