Tom Boken, Jr. of Dekalb was caucused in last minute by the Democratic Party.
He will run against republican Tom Demmer in November.
Boken works as a civil service worker at Northern Illinois University.
He said he will face challenges running a majority republican district, but thinks being a part of the House Majority will help the area.
Demmer said Boken's spot on the ballot won't stray his campaign.
