Dixon - The city sues its auditor, saying an alleged $50 million embezzling scheme should've been caught sooner.

In a lawsuit filed Friday, the city says the Janis Card Company and Samuel S. Card were negligent in allowing former Comptroller, Rita Crundwell, to allegedly steal $53 million from city funds.

Specifically, the city says the accountants failed to provide a true portrayal of the city's finances and also failed to properly perform audits.

The lawsuit asks for more than $50 million in damages.  We contacted the Janis Card Co., but managers there declined to comment.
