A jury convicted Omarrian Jones last month for a home invasion and murder that left Reynato and Leticia Cardino dead and their son fighting for his life. But after Friday's sentencing the Cardino family says they can finally begin to start healing.
"I
fee like we can mourn properly," said Joy Morgan, daughter of Reynato and
Leticia Cardino.
It was
a sentencing that family of Reynato and Leticia Cardino have been waiting for
almost three years.
"He
was the same person that attacked me, as is the same person that's in the
courtroom today," said Reyle Cardino, son of Reynato and Leticia Cardino.
Judge
Ronald White first denied Omarrian Jones' appeal for a new trial, then
sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He added 30 years for attempted murder of the
Cardino's son Reyle, as well as 30 more years for home invasion.
"He
is going to spend the rest of his life in prison for the terrible acts that he
has committed," said
The Cardino
family has made every attempt to be in court throughout the entire process, and
says while nothing will take away their loss, the experience has brought them
together.
"It
made us a lot more stronger," said Morgan. "The bond, I don't think it's going to break
at all."
And now
with the trial behind them, Reyle and Joy hope to instill the lessons their
parents taught them, to their children and grandchildren.
"From
here on forward you know we can only hope and pray that we find a way to move
forward from here," said Reyle Cardino.
"I just feel like their actually rested in peace now," said Morgan.
Jones also was sentenced 15 years for burglary, but those years will be served concurrently with his other sentences. He does have the opportunity to appeal the sentence but must file to do so within 30 days.
