Rockford Man Now Charged With Murder After Girlfriend Dies From Stab Wounds

Rockford - Charges have been upgraded in the case of a local man accused of stabbing his girlfriend.

Melvin Perkins, 30, is now charged with 1st degree murder.  The 21 year-old victim died last night at a local hospital.

According to police, Perkins and the woman were arguing when he allegedly stabbed her several times.  It happened Thursday at 510 N. Horsman Street.

Perkins was taken into custody last week.

UPDATE: Police have identified the victim as 21 year-old Sandra Golden.
