July 12, 2012 (WINNEBAGO) "When I was a kid, I rode my bicycle to school," said Bev Moore.

Always looking for a new bike path to explore, not a day goes by where Bev Moore doesn't ride her bicycle.

"We need to just expand those opportunity for people to ride their bicycle," said Moore.

Expanding those opportunity is important for Moore, which is why she finds herself at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Pecatonica Prairie Path.

"You know if you have a friend in Winnebago... You can ride from Pecatonica with no problem. You won't be in traffic. It's not a dangerous place. It's a beautiful place for you to ride and exercise," said Moore.

In the works for nearly 18 years, the $7.6 million dollar path project will run from Stephenson county to Meridian Road in Rockford. Ultimately connecting the Mississippi river to Lake Michigan.

"This is a good transportation corridor; as well as a recreational corridor; as well as a quality of life issue for our residents," said Winnebago County Engineer Joe Vanderwerff.

An issue, Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen agrees with, and knows the path will bring everyone closer together.

"It ties communities together, counties together, villages, and provides recreation for bikers. We're seeing more and more of this now," said Christiansen.

As for Moore, the 71-year-old grandmother continues to bike, and hopes her grandchildren will someday appreciate her love for the wheels.

"Now I've got great grand kids so we're moving it on. They got little child trailers for their babies now. So I'm going to keep them bicycling," she said.
