A Cigarette Brings Down a Rockford Apartment

Rockford - A cigarette ignites a fire badly damaging an apartment complex on 11th Street.
The top floor of the building is a total loss and one of the rooms on the bottom has significant water damage.
The Red Cross is helping out five families forced out of their homes. Investigators say a man was smoking before the fire broke out, but aren't sure how it sparked such a big fire.
No one was hurt.
