A public hearing was held Monday August 6, regarding the proposed closure of Singer Mental Heath Center.

Taking place at the Coronado Theater in downtown Rockford, dozens of Stateline residents gathered to voice their concerns over the centers possible closing.

Public officials, center employees and patients all pleaded with a state review board to reject the application for closure.

The state maintains that it has no money to operate singer and closure is their only option. If closed, patients would be forced to seek help elsewhere in cities such as Chicago, Springfield and Elgin. A move that those in opposition say just wouldn't work
