LOVES PARK, Ill. - Javier Herrera is now a Southern Illinois Miner.
The Rockford RiverHawks traded the all-star outfielder Thursday to the Miners for three players to be named later. Herrera did not play for the Miners in their 9-4 win over the RiverHawks.
Herrera led the RiverHawks with a .338 batting average, third in the league, and hit eight home runs with 64 RBI. He started for the West Division in July's Frontier League All-Star Game.
On June 28, Herrera hit for the first cycle in RiverHawks history. He also tied team records with five hits and seven RBI in a 13-8 win over Evansville at RiverHawks Stadium.
The RiverHawks signed the former Oakland farmhand during the offseason. Baseball America magazine twice named him the No. 2 prospect in the A's system.
