Rockford - A scary moment on the city's south side this afternoon. A single engine airplane with two people onboard crashed into a field near the Rockford Airport.

Investigators say the plane took off from the Poplar Grove Airport.  A short while later, the pilot alerted the Rockford control tower he was having a power issue and requested emergency assistance.

The initial landing went smooth, but then crops got tangled in the tires causing it to flip.  Almost miraculously, the pilot and passenger weren't hurt.  "Now, we're just in a waiting mode" says Zack Oakley, RFD Operations and Facilities Supervisor.  "The FAA will begin its investigation they'll have to.  Obviously, with an accident they're going to have to investigate it fully to find the true cause."

The plane has been taken to an airport hangar for further investigation by the FAA.

ircraft takes off and changes its attitude. Could undetectable water hiding in the fuel tank then change its attitude and leaves it's hiding place to make its way to the engine fuel pick-up? NTSB has written off engine failures in General Aviation Aircraft well over 6,418 times with the probable cause of UNDETERMINED. If the NTSB cannot get a handle on the complexities of air, spark, compression and UNCONTAMINATED FUEL, maybe we should ask a good old country boy. Do not believe blindly in the FAA certification where the pre-flight procedure is concerned. Do your own red dyed water in the fuel tank test as the aircraft sits in its normal ground attitude. Pour in 16 ounces of water then go to the sumps and see if you can positively detect and then eliminate the entire 16 ounces you just poured into the fuel tank. Try it on the Cessna 152 and let me know of the results. Here are my results of undetectable water in the fuel tank of the Cessna 152: http://sumpthis.com/10292003lettertofaafsdonashville/faafsdonashvilleletter10292003.htm
