Lions Release Dimke 8/27/12

Updated: August 27, 2012
Detroit, Michigan-Former Boylan and Fighting Illini kicker Derek Dimke did not survive the first round of cuts by the Detroit Lions Monday. He was released.

The Lions move wasn't unexpected.  Dimke was considered a long shot to beat out veteran kicker Jason Hanson going into camp.

Dimke did all he could to impress the coaching staff while with the Lions. In three preseason games he was 2-for-2 in field goals (40 yards, and 31 yards) and 3-for-3 in extra points.

Dimke hopes that performance will land him a shot with another NFL team in need of a kicker.
