breaking news
Rockford, Illinois- Rockford officials have had their eye on the BP/Amoco gas station at Auburn and Central for about ten years. After repeated complaints of illegal activity taking place at the station, the city had seen enough. They closed the business for a period of ten days. That got the attention of the station`s owners.
"They seemed to understand that this was a serious situation and decided to take the steps to keep the business open," says Jennifer Cacciapaglia, the assistant city attorney.
On Monday, the station reopened for business. Cacciapaglia gave the owners of the business a list of things that needed to be done to keep the station open.
"They`re going to have armed security guards at the property from certain hours, most of the time they`re open actually, until they get the situation under control," says Cacciapaglia. "Then, we`ll scale back the requirements on that. In general, be more proactive, in scattering the illegal activity."
