Dental Deadline for Kids Approaches

Monday, Crusader Clinic had its last dental exam open house for those trying to meet the May 15th deadline. This is the first year Illinois has mandated dental check-ups for school children. For some kids it`s the first time they`ve seen a dentist. "There are a lot of kids who need a lot of work," says Crusader Clinic Dental Director Greg Ringler. "Without having to make them come in, they`ll fall through the cracks." The Crusader Clinic has had several clinics like this so parents can meet the deadline at an affordable price. Rockford Resident Tonya Carter has three kids. The youngest needs two fillings. "It cost so much to get teeth clean," says Carter. "He has to get fillings and it costs too much. It helps to get free and reduced dental exams and fillings." There are children like Brock Williams who understands the importance of the cleaning. He said he wasn`t scared. "She said `no cavities,`" says Brock. "Its ok, it`s healthy, it`s good for you, makes sure you get your teeth clean or they`ll rot and fall out. You don`t want that." The mandatory dental visit goes beyond a cleaning. Brock has learned about flossing and rinsing from Dr. Ringler. "This is to get the kids in to make sure they don`t have major concerns or anything to be done," says Ringler. "A way you keep tabs on the kids mouths." He says, while making a trip to the dentist, a positive experience. If your kids still need an exam, call Crusader Clinic and they can try and fit you in before Monday.
