10th Murder Of The Year Occurs Tuesday Night In Rockford

(Rockford, Illinois) The father of four was shot and killed late Tuesday night on Rockford`s west side. 35 year old Tyrone Dowthard was shot once in the chest outside of his sister`s house on West Jefferson Street in Rockford. Police say they are searching for a suspect but have not identified him and have not recovered a murder weapon. Neighbors describe the victim as a hard-working family man who had four children and didn`t deserve to die so early in his life and in such a violent fashion. Gladys Wills lives just a few house down from the murder scene. She says she was looking out of her window when the shooting took place and adds, "This has got to stop, this is crazy. He lives right here. He just got off work. He comes over to his sister`s house and somebody comes over and shoots him." Rockford Deputy Chief Theo Glover told WTVO so far the murder does not appear to be tied to any kind of drug or gang activity. He adds no arrests have been made and their investigation is continuing. This was Rockford`s 10th murder of 2006.
