(Belvidere, Illinois) The new Jeep Compass rolled off the assembly line for the first time at Belvidere`s DaimlerChrysler plant Tuesday.
The start of production on the new Compass is obviously good news for workers at the Belvidere plant. But it is also good news for businesses connected to the Chrysler plant.
Michael McNulty, the plant manager for a Belvidere auto parts supplier called Oakley Sub Assembly says the Compass being built here in Belvidere will result in them hiring more workers and adding a third shift.
At another Belvidere business, the Easy Goen Bar and Grill, owner Tom Goen says the workers who eat and drink at his business are excited about the Compass, along with all the other positive changes that are going on out at the plant.
Goen adds, "The main thing is they know the plant will be staying here....and that`s good news for us and for them."
Goen adds he believes 30 to 35 percent of his business comes from current or retired DaimlerChrysler workers.
