Rockford, Illinois- There Is a new device that will make sure parents know where their kids are; and its not a leash..
Here`s how it works: your child uses Verizon`s new Migo phone and you use the "parent" tracking phone.
Through a global positioning system, your child`s Migo is constantly tracked.
At any time, you can check your child`s location online or through your "parent" phone.
"It just gives that added peace of mind, obviously we live in a busy time," says Verizon Wireless Manager, Gabe Chappell.
Maybe, but for 11 year-old Caitlin Guat, who wanted us to know she is turning 12 next week, it might not work. "That`d be ok," she says, "except I`d turn it off if I was somewhere they didnt` want me to be."
That goes for her friend Lana Markovic too. "I don`t want my mom knowing where I am all the time, but it`d be good if something happens."
"Obviously," says Chappell, "the idea would be that the child has the phone with them."
Verizon says the service target`s kids five through 12. So, maybe Caitlin and Lana are just about too old anyway.
But the service could be good for Shiela Stender`s kids; they are four and six. "At their age, they`re always moving and shaking and it`d be nice to know."
Verizon says it`s all about easing a parent`s mind.
"It gives a parent the knowledge of exactly where their child is," says Chappell.
The service also allows you to create a virtual "child zone" fence for your child. If they go out of the area you have approved, you will be notified with a text message.
The Chaperone service costs about $10 a month. If you want the "child zone" notification, it is another $10 a month.
