(Rockford, Illinois) The arrest of a 15 year old girl in Rockford on prostitution charges is raising some concerns in the Rockford community.
The arrest took place Monday night and was part of a major prostitution crackdown by Rockford Police in the 7th Street, Broadway, and 11th Street area.
Police say it is unusual to arrest teens for prostitution, especially one under the age of 16.
Rockford Deputy Chief Marty Booker says drugs are usually connected in such types of criminal activity and adds, "The vast majority of those engaged in prostitution are engaged in that type of activity to fuel or obtain funds to purchase crack cocaine."
Asst. State`s Attorney Pam Wells says the 15 year old`s case is moving through the court system in a normal fashion, and she will be referred for additional services as needed.
