Roscoe, Illinois- Roscoe resident Mary Harbut thinks very highly of the Roscoe police force.
She was not pleased to learn of the village board`s interest in possibly disbanding the current local force to instead contract with Winnebago County for police service.
Harbut said Thursday, "I feel it`s taking a step backwards, and it`s not in the best interest of the safety for our community, and a lot of public opinion is against it also."
Several concerned citizens staged a picket Thursday afternoon in front of the Roscoe Village Hall collecting signatures from area residents who support keeping a local police force.
"My biggest concern is that twelve of our officers, our police chief, and the lieutenant are going to lose their jobs," Harbut said. "They cannot gurantee that the county could pick them up."
