breaking news
Cherry Valley, Illinois- Snap pops, smoke bombs and sparklers. You can get them all the Skys The Limit Fireworks tent in Cherry Valley.
"Everything we have is legal for Illinois - mostly kids items, stuff like that," says Jennifer Spryzak who works in the tent.
Fireworks like snappers, smoke bombs and sparklers are legal, but if you are caught with illegal fireworks this year, you can face a fine of up to $750.
"This year we are going to be issuing notices to appear. We will confiscate, take the fireworks into evidence and they will have to appear before a judge," says Rockfords Chief of Fire Prevention, Frank Schmitt.
That is because illegal fireworks like bottle rockets, firecrackers and shells are extremely dangerous. They are to blame for at least two fires in Rockford last year.
"I don`t want to break any laws or anything," says Stephan Peters as hes shopping for fireworks, "but I`m gonna have fun."
But even legal fireworks can spark unsafe flames, some reach temperatures of up to 1800 degrees.
"We`ve had house fires that have been caused by sparklers and by the smoke bombs," says Schmitt.
So as you celebrate the birth of our nation this holiday weekend, just be careful.
