(Rockford, Illinois) Can the Stateline get passenger rail service without joining the Chicagoland Regional Transportation Authority?
That was a question brought up after WTVO interviewed RTA Executive Director Phil Pagano Tuesday, and he suggested the Stateline might consider joining the RTA.
Stateline leaders say they have been considering that possibility for years, but it might be a better idea for the area to develop their own transportation authority.
Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey says he`s not sure joining the RTA is the best idea for right now and adds, "The problem with joining an entity like the RTA is we`d have to tax ourselves and give them our money as a group. Certainly that`s an option. Certainly the other option is to create our own original transportation authority."
Mayor Morrissey adds a state law would have to be passed before the Stateline could develop its own transportation authority.
