Rockford Sees Its First Snow Of The Season

Rockford, Illinois- The snowy weather caused several accidents on the road early this morning around 8 a.m. The black pavement turned white as the first snow of the season began to fall down. "It was a lot," says Brittaney Gould. "It was very cold and took forever to wipe off the car and just a lot of snow. I couldn`t believe it when I woke up." Many other drivers did not seem ready for it either. Traffic was backed up on Bypass 20, after several cars ended up on the side of the road or even flipped over. "He lost control on this slick road and rolled into the ditch and ended up on his side," says Bob Johnson who saw one of the accidents this morning. Johnson says the driver of one truck that flipped over is ok, but his car does not look so good. "He wasn`t doing more than 4 or 5 miles more than I was and I was doing 40 across the bridge." Then Johnson saw a second driver off the bridge just a few minutes later. "It`s most definitely the weather and there are two more accidents down the road," he says. Until police arrived, Johnson decided to direct traffic to prevent any other accidents on the wet roads. Other drivers, like Anthony Scherman, say they know the key to staying safe on days like these, "I slowed down a little bit, cause I`ve slid off the road a few times before." By about 11 a.m. most of the snow was dried up.
